Maya the Green Star
Introduction by Amaya Hunab
I've been thinking a lot about the idea of identify oneself with a name. Hunab It is the name that, at a very precious moment in my existence, I chose to bear to represent what I longed to embody: a vaster, more integral consciousness, beyond the limits that “Luis” (my birth name) had represented until then.
The circumstances of my life led me to investigate the secrets of existence from an early age. Death, embodied in the loss of a loved one, was my greatest teacher. Through her, I was introduced to texts, symbols, and practices unknown in the popular culture surrounding me.
I began to believe that words have the power to seal realityA seal not only defines what is seen, but what it represents, its essence and its purpose.
A name is a seal.
And our name tells our story; what we believe we are.
Amaya It's my last name, and I've only recently re-adopted it for integrate the cycle to which I belong as a human. It is my paternal lineage, the one I find myself healing and rewriting to feel that I clean and expand my legacy.
¿What legacy?
A cultural legacy, first and foremost: the stories and myths of the lands where I was born. Waking up in a technological world allowed me access to global culture, to the narratives of all peoples, and to the symbols that unite them. All that mystery linked to death led me, inevitably, to the Mayan civilization. I always felt a deep echo of my own identity within it: Amaya.
Beyond the historical context that I carry by birth, there are the causalities: events that polish the raw mineral that I am. Each of them adds layers to the meaning of "Luis," "Hunab," or "Amaya."
And then it came the music.
The eccentric and mysterious muse, hidden in the matrix of the Universe, silently revealed by awakened hearts. In her, as in light, we store information, transmit it, and transform it.
We have made the music living memory: lullabies, tribal chants, modern hymns... time capsules that hold the invisible.
It is no coincidence that I chose the path of art and music.
I wanted to remember the stories of humanity and become part of them.
And after years of navigating an existential odyssey in a bewildering world, where the power of music to transform consciousness is ignored; after personal stories that confronted me with the rawness and strangeness of humanity, an inevitable moment arrived:
Drop.
Start over, honoring even my imperfection as a man.
To Be Again, maybe I just needed to remember.
Doing therapy in different formats felt like exercising a still intoxicated body. Until she came to me:
Imagination as medicine.
Fiction as a means of transformation.
Myth as a mirror.
I live in a geographical center of unique inspiration. The Caribbean brings me closer to the Mayans, and that word thrills me. It was only a matter of time before my heart took over and I tapped into my imagination as a therapeutic resource.
Despite having already written three books (one of them reserved for my own records), I had not yet allowed myself to weave a novel that would unite my emotions with my desires, my experiences with my technological visions.
This is how it was born Maya, with the seal of "fiction", but woven with true threads.
Like most stories and myths written on this planet, Maya It is a character created with the intention of reminding us of the value of life and the sacred echoes of memory.
I followed in the footsteps of men and women who knew alchemize your life through mythI was inspired by how powerful an archetypal character's influence can be on culture…
One of the few ways to transcend death.
And yes, writing this novel has been the gesture of greatest hope I have given myself.
Maya is, like every character created with the soul, a being I long to emulate.
It is that which I cannot yet be, but which already lives within me as a guiding light.
An impossible reflection, a perhaps unattainable ideal, and yet the internal map that invites me to advance along the blind path of existence.
I chose to represent the best of me. And the best of me is, ultimately, the best any human being can offer.
I am just another replica of our ancestors, repeating old songs in new tones.
The canvas is the same, the composition too.
Just change the color palette.
To have touched just one heart, be it "Amaya", "Hunab" or whatever name you choose, would be enough to honor the orchestra of the cosmos.
Maya, as a character, is a green star Because there are no green stars in the observable universe. Of the billions we've cataloged, not a single one shines green.
Maya is destined to inspire the search for "home", that is, of identity.
A reminder that home is within, not without.
That we are made of light, and in light we can continue.
That being human is one of the bravest acts that light has attempted to find new ways of existing.
This story is one, and many.
An infinite point on the branch of creation.
An extension of the same feeling.
Thank you for being part of it.
