Perhaps the most important thing in Tarot practice, like any ritual-type practice, is the intention that is manifested through the word or invocation at the beginning of a session.

The intention, both of the participant and of the person doing the reading, sets the guidelines for the session itself. So, it is very important to make clear what the general intention of the spread is. It is also very important to mention the consciences that will participate in it.

Intention

The intention is that authentic desire of the participating soul about what it hopes to obtain in the session. They are not wishes to fulfill, but needs of the heart in life situations. It is important to ask the participant about their true intention and guide them to understand that it is not something concrete or material that we ask for it to be fulfilled.

The suggested intention for the person doing the reading is always:

Achieve clarity and discernment for the highest benefit of (participant name) and the people and relationships involved.

Permission

Part of the openness involves explicitly asking permission, both from the participant and from the tarot itself, to perform a reading on their behalf. This helps a lot to release any resistance in the process, both in the transmission and reception of information.

• To do this, the person is asked to say their name out loud three times, holding their left hand on their heart and their right hand on the tarot deck.
• Following this, the person doing the reading says, "Do I have your permission to do a tarot reading on your behalf?"

Invocation

The invocation is a specific prayer that is recited at the beginning of a session. This prayer is a direct message to the conscious and subconscious minds of all the people who participate in the shooting in person.

Many people like to make prayers belonging to their respective religions or spiritual beliefs. There are people who invoke "God" through specific prayers or the "Universe" as an omnipresent force. Other people ask for assistance from specific beings through the tarot. Be that as it may, everyone can choose their invocation prayer to seal the intention and align the energy for the session.

Personally I use the following prayer, which I consider simple and very powerful, adapting to any situation or spiritual context:
